Our Innovative Eco-Dyeing
After the discovery of synthetic dyes in 1856, natural dyes have been almost neglected ever since. Excessive use of synthetic dyes is estimated 10,000,000 tons/year, releasing tremendous wastes and unfixed colorants to the environment.
Chemical mordants/salts, heavy metals, azides, etc. used in textile and dyeing are carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic, endocrine-disrupting, allergenic & environmentally hazardous substances and disturb the eco-balance of environment.
Zilu developed innovative eco-dyeing techniques and removed/minimized such hazardous and chemical mordants – thanks to bio-mordants and natural pigments.
Our natural dyes can be Rose madder (purpurin and alizarin-based), sumac, chamomile flower, grape and fig leaves, onion skin and leaf, woad, weld, walnut husk, mulberry, pomegranate husk and skin, indigo, mignonette, etc.
Zilu have also developed a plant-based soap for washing yarn & rugs.
